Four Acts of Resistance (2018 - 2021) Shaking the Tree has committed to four years of programming (one event per year) in direct response to a Trump presidency and its implications of hate, exclusion, bigotry, and fear. Each year’s act of resistance will seek to incorporate voices from communities who are threatened to become disenfranchised under the Trump regime. Including but not limited to: Women, People of Color, LGBTQ, Latinos, Muslims, Immigrants, Refugees, Environmentalists. Because our new political landscape is changing so drastically, on sometimes a day-to-day basis, Samantha Van Der Merwe, Founding Artistic Director, will determine each year’s act in January of the preceding year. Here is Shaking the Tree’s First Act of Resistance
Act 2- Year 2
A collaborative work (still in its early stages on development) based on Hansel and Gretel. This multi-disciplinary piece of theatre aims to challenge the concept of society's view of the witch (and woman as outcast). What if getting lost in the woods in necessary, and coming face to face with the witch is essential for growth?
